My reaction post to Journey's End...

current mood: thoughtful
So I wrote a massive email reaction to a friend about the Doctor Who season 4 finale, and realized that I should probably post it on here too.

So I wrote a massive email reaction to a friend about the Doctor Who season 4 finale, and realized that I should probably post it on here too.

I'm not used to disliking an episode of Doctor Who. I have pretty much loved (almost) all of the episodes, and so it was surprising to me that I took such a dislike to the most recent episode "Forest of the Dead"...

I realized that I have been neglecting my livejournal of late (I have been posting in that blog I had to do for class instead), so now I am ready to post here again!
I am not sure what is wrong with me - but I am reading spoilers again! I'm usually pretty good about it, but for some reason I don't seem to be able to resist reading Doctor Who spoilers. Which is a shame because it is the show I look forward to the most right now. Do I really need to know what is going to happen in the 2008 Christmas special? It's like 9 months away and I already know who the guest stars are! From this moment on I will NOT read anymore Doctor Who spoilers. Although really there is one SQUEE worthy guest star that is showing up in the set photos...

I made it through the entire first, second and what's aired so far of the third seasons of Bones. It took me a few months, but now I don't know what to watch!
There writers strike is starting to take it's toll on my TV viewing habits! I am excited about the return of Stargate Atlantis as well as Monk & Psych, but that's only Friday night viewing. :(
I have been DVRing season 2 of Life on Mars (I haven't watched it yet), and I suppose I will cave and watch Torchwood season 2 when it starts on BBC America.
*Sigh* I miss Heroes, How I Met Your Mother, Chuck, House, Bones, and Pushing Daisies!

Well, that was made of Awesome!!! The Doctor Who special was definately worth the wait. I really enjoyed it. Now I can't wait for series 4!
My opinions under the cut...

Season 4 Doctor Who Spoilers...
So there's this little BBC Press Release floating around: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7
All I've got to say is SQUEE!!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!
I had a great thanksgiving - it was nice to FINALLY have a break from school. (I wrote a 23 page paper on Tuesday night). I lounged around today, watched the Coupling marathon on BBC America (that show is great), and ate turkey. Tomorrow I get to resume my homework. :)

Seriously.
Maybe I'll change my mind after it comes back from commerical...but I am MAJORLY pissed off.

So it looks like most shows are shutting down production due to the Writer's Strike. I guess there's two possible outcomes to the way this will change the landscape of American Television. A) We are forced into a system similar to how British TV works (13 episode seasons; no reruns in between) OR we can have a horrible terrible fate befall us all: REALITY TV. I'm concerned that the general population is going to be willing to embrace all forms of reality TV to the point that it will remain our primary form of television even after the strike has ended.
I have decided that I will not watch any new Reality programming that is put on the air to replace scripted programs.
The only channels I am planning to watch during the strike are: BBC America, USA (once Psych and Monk resume), and the Discovery Channel.
I find British TV to be much more informed, intelligent, and interesting. Their reality programming is educational, and actually provides suggestions and improvements for their viewers rather than providing conflict. The difference between the original British Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares and the American one is astounding. They've taken anything that is remotely useful and removed it, only to be replaced with people screaming at each other for 45 minutes. The original Kitchen Nightmares really is an interesting show, as are How Clean is Your House? and You are What You Eat. There seems to be such a difference in the style of the shows available on BBC America versus the ones produced in America.
I suppose I'm going to have to find a hobby now that I will not have anything to watch on TV.

So, I was just reading an article about the Writers strike (which I know is nothing to squee about...) and happened upon an article talking about the 10 movies that won't be affected. Apparently I've been living under a rock the last 3 days because the SECOND X-FILES MOVIE is going into production on December 10th for a July 25th, 2008 RELEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG!!!!!!!!
They've been promising it for 10 years and now it's really going to happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm a bit bummed about the writers' strike. I really don't want the only thing on TV to be reality shows.
Okay, enough of that...I'm soooooo psyched about the second XFILES MOVIE!!!!
I guess it's time for the great X-Files rewatch. I'll start with the pilot!
